Congratulations on posting your API on RapidAPI. Welcome to our API Provider community! Our Provider Welcome Kit includes the information you need to get started marketing and promoting your API.
Making sure our API Providers are properly supported once on the RapidAPI Marketplace is a big focus for us. We look forward to working with you to understand your goals, API strategy and what you would like to achieve on RapidAPI Marketplace. We are committed to helping our providers get value and be successful with our platform.
Now it’s time to start promoting your API so that developers can discover, test and subscribe to it. Here’s a checklist on how to increase your API’s awareness and adoption:
As a provider, your goal is to make the process from discovering to using your API as fast and frictionless as possible. Here are some website optimization tips to streamline the process for developers.
Each RapidAPI user gets a single, multi-API key enabling quick setup and convenient management. Avoid additional key generation on your website.
If you already have an authentication process in place, consider using hidden headers so that developers already on RapidAPI don’t have to generate an additional key or leave the page to start testing.
Keep pricing clear and transparent from the beginning. We recommend linking to your Pricing page on RapidAPI as it features plan prices and overage fees.
Add a RapidAPI badge to your website and docs to let users connect to your API.
Here's an example by one of our providers:
We recommend linking to your API on RapidAPI from:
- Your API docs
- Any "test now" or "generate key" call to action
- The pricing page or a “subscribe” call to action
These links will streamline the subscription process for developers.
What is your API’s niche? What does your API actually help developers achieve? Are you a sentiment analysis or IP geolocation API? Or is your value proposition broader?
After defining your value proposition, you can start owning your specific niche with these steps:
Say you have a visual recognition API that focuses on reading emotions from facial expressions. What words do developers use to search for that functionality: facial recognition, face recognition, visual recognition, or emotion APIs?
Finding the most popular and specific phrase that matches your functionality will help search engines direct developers to your website. You can use keyword research tools, like Google Keyword Planner, to define the phrase that you would like your API to rank for.
Now that you have chosen the keywords that you want to be associated with your API, you can expand your efforts with paid and organic marketing. Start a Google AdWords campaign to showcase your API in targeted search results. Check out this Kissmetrics guide on how to start an AdWords campaign from scratch.
Answer questions relative to your API on Quora and StackOverflow to demonstrate value to people asking for help. Check out how one of our API providers responds to questions:
Focus on being helpful first, promoting your API second. We recommend including the fact that you are associated with the API or company in your answer.
You can track traffic from these answers by using Google tracking links and checking your Google analytics. Check out this tutorial on Google Analytics to learn more.
Send an email newsletter to your customers and developers announcing your API with a link to your listing on the RapidAPI Marketplace.
Publish a blog post and tweet about your API. Social media examples from our API Providers include:
- Blog examples from Kairos, Climacell, Zerobounce. These posts describe the value of partnering with RapidAPI to empower developers to connect quickly and easily to many APIs from the same interface.
- Twitter examples from AudD, Quick Verify. Social media posts could be as simple as "hey #developers, we're now available on RapidAPI!" with a link to your API listing.
We recommend creating a calendar of marketing activities to drive developer awareness and adoption of your API.
As an example, providers can:
- Highlight developer projects
- Aggregate tools or publications that your audience will find helpful
- Create tutorials
- Cover relevant industry news
- Post a blog about your API’s benefits for developers
- Publish a short video about how your API is used
- Invite industry influencers to do a guest blog
Guest blog posting can also boost your API’s awareness. RapidAPI offers content partnership opportunities, such as newsletter features and blog posts. Drop us a line at email@example.com. We’re here to help!
